Open in Windows Explorer not working in SharePoint 2010

A quick post regarding a small issue with the open in Windows Explorer not lunching Windows Explorer!

It turns out if you are runing a 64 bit OS and a 64 bit browser the Windows Explorer mode will not work. You need to install a 32bit browser in order to get this working! Probably something to do with the Web Dav code.

Microsoft cover this by saying IE 64 bit is a “Level 2″ browser, see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc288142.aspx

hmm, just tested this on Windows Server 2008 64bit with SharePoint 2010 – same issue, but you do now get a nice message box informing you your browser does not support this command.

A step forward!
